Success for Football Team

On Tuesday 9th January the under 13 football team travelled to Luton to represent Southend United in the EFL (English Football League) girls’ cup. This was the South East regional final where we competed against teams representing; Norwich FC, Stevenage FC, Colchester United, Luton Town FC & Cambridge United. The girls finished top of their group sending us into the semi-final game against Stevenage FC (Sir John Warner School) an end to end game finishing in a 2-2 tie took the game to penalties. With 2 penalty saves from Kate W and a sudden death penalty goal from Hannah W the girls made the final. Here we faced Colchester United (The Thurstable School), a highly competitive, end to end game unfortunately saw us lose 1-0. The girls finished the day with the most amount of goals, Michelle A with the most in the tournament (9) and for their first year of football they should more than pleased with their performances.

Well done to the whole team.
