Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all a big thank you to all the PA members who helped during a very busy week starting with the cream tea for parents of the new year 7s on Monday’s induction day, during the summer concert on the following evening and on the ever so busy SHSG open day on Wednesday.
As mentioned previously, we understand that not every member can help at every event as we all lead busy lives but it was lovely to see people coming together during such a busy period and supporting each other and obviously the school.
We will also be present at next week’s “Big Band and BBQ” which promises to be fantastic evening filled with wonderful music, food and drink, so don’t forget to get your tickets soon!
We are still looking for a new disco coordinator and there are probably going to be a few new positions, too, e.g. someone in charge of PR, event planning and possibly others.
If you would like to join our welcoming and friendly team of parent volunteers and would like to contribute either by taking over a role (and there is the option to share it with another parent) or even just helping out at various events, please get in touch with either our Secretary Rachel Jones (firstname.lastname@example.org) or myself (email@example.com). Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday September 12th (location to be confirmed). Looking forward to hearing from you.
With the start of a new school year in September we are also gathering ideas for “Fun and Fund-raising”-projects!
I have already asked the school council to go back to their forms and find out what the students would like the PA to put on at the school for the students but also potentially parents/carers, teachers and staff to enjoy which at the same time will raise money for new purchases and events that will enrich all the students’ learning. Looking forward to receiving a list of wonderful (though achievable!) ideas in due course.
The PA has decided that we will from now on charge for refreshments at most events with a few exceptions but aiming to offer a larger variety, e.g. mulled wine and mince pies like at last year’s Christmas concerts which went down very well and hopefully Pimms and nibbles at the summer events. You hopefully all agree that the main aim of the PA is raising money to fund extras for the students, e.g. the Bug Man and many others, so we feel charging a small amount for refreshments is a good way to bring in some extra cash on a regular basis. So please remember to bring some change when you attend your next school event!
THE CHRISTMAS CRACKER
As you have seen in last week’s Gazette, we are due to launch our big fundraiser “Christmas Cracker” to help fund a new and much needed mini-bus under the motto “A car for a car” as there are two top prizes to be won: prize one is a chauffeur driven BMW to a West End show of your choice (tickets for 2 people included) and prize 2 is an Audi to drive for the weekend. The tickets will be £5 each and as soon as they are available, they can be purchased from the school bank and at any of the forthcoming events. Look out for further news in next week’s Gazette and also on the school website and Facebook page.
