As an academic grammar school examination results are an important part of our everyday life.  For our students examination results represent a gateway to move to the next stage of education or to enter the world of work.  We take great pride in our results and are constantly looking for ways to further improve them.  We are also aware that the impact of our school goes much deeper than just these grades.

A'Level Examination Results

Yet again the students of Southend High School for Girls Sixth Form have achieved excellent A level examination results.  Among their successes; they continued the SHSG 100% A level pass rate for another year, 100% of those students (7) who applied to Oxford or Cambridge have achieved the grades they required to take up their places, more students (25) have achieved all A or A* grades in each of their subjects and 3 students even achieved the ultimate academic accolade of A* grades in all of their subjects.  Indeed, 36% of all examinations taken were graded as A or A*.   I would particularly like to congratulate all of our Scientists as at least 75% of all Chemistry, Physics and Biology grades were A*-B (this was a massive 85% for the Biologists).  This is an exceptional achievement for these students.  I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students on their excellent results and wish them well as they continue their journey on to university or the world of work.  Many students will be heading toward Russell Group Universities to study courses ranging from Medicine (5 students)  to Engineering to Vet Science to Law and for a number of our students they will be the first generation in their family ever to attend a university!  This is a stunning achievement for those students.   These results are more than just letters on a page they tell the stories of the dedication, hard work and resilience of our students during their time with us.  They also exemplify the commitment, care and talent of our excellent teachers and so my heartfelt thanks is extended to our staff for everything that they have done this year.  These results are no doubt a launch pad to even more successes in the future and I eagerly await to hear news from our students as they progress on to the next stage of their lives  -      Fiona Brierley, Headteacher

GCSE Examination Results

I am really pleased to be able to congratulate our year 11 students on an impressive set of GCSE results. 19 girls from the year group achieved all A and A* grades in all of their subjects (11, 12 and in some cases 13 different subjects). Given that most subjects have at least 2 examinations each this demonstrates the ability of these students to perform at the highest level and maintain that level of performance over the entire examination period, well done girls! Within this group, two students gained 11A*s each and another two 10A*s each. Again, fantastic achievements for these individuals. As a school we take pride in the achievement of all of our students and it is really heart warming to see that over 94% of our students achieved at least one A or A* grade within their results demonstrating that the vast majority have shown excellence in their strongest subjects. The year group as a whole have upheld the schools 100% record at gaining 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. These results are built on the commitment and dedication of these students and the strong relationships that they have developed with our staff during their 5 years at this school. These relationships will prove to be so important as we welcome these students into life at SHSG Sixth Form. I wish them the very best to all of our year 11 students when they return to us in September and I look forward to working with them further as they capitalise on these excellent results and undertake their journeys onto A levels and beyond    -     Fiona Brierley, Head Teacher
