Spiderman - Homecoming

Kamna P gives you the low-down of the most recent Spiderman film!

On the 7th of July 2017 one of the most anticipated movies of the year and the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Spiderman Homecoming, was released featuring break-out star Tom Holland.

Holland who is 21, also starred in The Impossible, first played the part of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spiderman in Captain America Civil War that was released in 2016 and went down a storm with him as the new Spiderman. The movie ranks as one of the top highest grossing movies earning about $877,580,061 worldwide.

After having a ‘sick’ time, with the Avengers in Berlin, Peter returns home to his friendly neighbourhood in Queens, New York. Like a normal teenager, Peter, unfortunately for him, has to return to school with his annoyingly loveable best friends, Ned and Michelle, and rich kid jerk named Flash. The only minute consolation is the anticipation that Tony Stark could call him at any time for a new mission. Like all boys, Peter is endearingly petrified of asking a girl out. But this is not just any girl: Liz is the prettiest and the most popular girl in the senior year. On hearing that Peter knows Spiderman (her favourite Avenger), Liz invites them to her house party and asks if Spiderman can come too. Just as Peter is about to enter as Spiderman, a colossal explosion goes off in the distance and Peter goes to check it out. A typical, Marvel-style comical fight ensues between Spiderman and The Vulture (played by Michael Keaton). Does Spiderman defeat the vulture and win the girl? You will just have to go and find out…

Personally I loved this movie as Tom Holland is the first comedic Spiderman since the comics, delivering his punchlines with impeccable comic timing every time. Marvel have been creating movies from their comics for aeons, which never fail to delight and enthral the audience, but arguably this is their best to date. I for one am waiting with baited breath for their new movie next month in which Chris Hemsworth is back playing the God of the Sky in Thor Ragnarok. Can it possibly live up to the standard of Spiderman Homecoming? Only time will tell.
