Name that Yarn Competition

In July, a German company called DyeForYarn made headlines because of the bizarre and imaginative names they gave to their yarn dyes, such as “Army of the Dead”, “Sunken Cocktail Cherry” and “Memory of a Fearsome Tale”.

The English Department at SHSG knows how creative our students are and so were confident our girls could think up similarly entertaining names.  And so the Name That Yarn competition was born.  SHSG English Department teamed up with DyeForYarn to find a name for their newest yarn colour and we weren’t disappointed.  We were so impressed with the standard of entry that we increased our shortlist from a proposed five students to ten.  DyeForYarn were the final judges and found it so hard to pick a winner from all the fabulous entries that they ended up choosing four winners instead!  The winners and winning names are: Isabel with “What the Cat Dragged In”; Lilleth with “Issues with the Milkman”; Marian with “That Thing Under the Bed”; Allysha with “Orion’s Paradox”.  Each of the winners received two skeins of yarn from DyeForYarn in a unique colour created especially to match the name.  The girls’ new colours will also be sold on the DyeForYarn website in the near future.
