Have Your Say Finals in Colchester
Nine pairs of our talented linguists made it through to the Have Your Say Finals this week. The competition was very fierce this year. All of our students performed very well and the judges made a point of stating how close the scores were across the board. The following students came in the top 3 in their category:
Yr 8 German Hannah W and Charlotte P 1st place
Yr 8 Spanish Ellie W and Lily M 3rd place
Yr 9 French Ekaterina H and Jennifer W 1st place
Yr 9 German Shuchi M and Anna C 2nd place
Yr 9 Spanish Elyce C and Shriya V 3rd place
Yr 10 German Hannah B and Amica B 1st place
We returned to school with five shields - two we had won last year we were allowed to keep - and Ms Kolbl and I were very proud of all of our students. Anna Lise Gordon, the Association for Language Learning (ALL) President, gave an engaging speech on the importance of languages as a means of communication between individuals, and the event was a real celebration of the positive approach to language learning by the hundreds of students taking part from Essex and East Anglia.
Many thanks to the parents who were waiting to collect their students and apologies for the late return back to school - the competition ran over by half an hour. Photos taken by the event organisers will be shared with the students once we have received them.
All students who took part in the Finals will receive a badge soon after half term, paid for with generous funding from the Parents’ Association.
