SHSG Ski Team

On Sunday 12th May, the SHSG Ski Team attended their inaugural race at Ipswich Ski Centre. Comprised of nine students from Year 7 and 8, the students had come together as a team only six weeks ago, attending three training sessions at Brentwood dry ski slope in preparation for the big day. It was the first experience of ski racing for eight of the students, joined by Anna S who regularly races at Brentwood, for Essex, and further afield. The students were understandably very apprehensive as we arrived at the venue on Sunday morning, alongside 150 other racers from around the East of England, but after their first run nerves turned into enjoyment and excitement for their second run, where they would try to better their initial time. All students completed two runs successfully (not necessarily the case for all other competitors!) and every student improved their time from first to second run. Well done to all who students took part, and thank you to Mrs Sarkar for running the team. A lovely day was had by students and their supportive parents alike, as we were very lucky with the weather on the day!

Congratulations to the whole team: Elizabeth A, Scarlett B, Kitty C, Sophia C, Ruby F, Bethan L, Sophie M, Sophia T, especially to Anna S who is responsible for the inception of the team and who also achieved the fastest time of the under-14 girls.

If any student is interested in joining the team, please e-mail Miss Ryan at rryan@shsg.org. The next race will likely be in September, and will be open to all age-groups. We will also be launching the 2021 Ski Trip to Austria after half term – look out for future notices in the Gazette!
