Success at the National Schools' Track and Field Cup Final
The junior and intermediate athletics teams competed in the National Schools’ track and field cup final. After the seven regional finals that took place across the country the junior girls scored the highest number of points and the intermediate girls were in third place behind Coopers Coburn School and Millfield. We knew that both teams should be aiming for a podium finish.
The junior girls literally left everything they had on the track with two athletes scoring off the score chart in the 100m and 200m! Meanwhile the intermediate girls were holding their nerve on the field and putting in some sound performances. At the half way stage of the competition, the junior girls were first and the intermediate girls were 6th.
The intermediate girls took to the track and the points soon started to come good again with girls scoring off the score chart in the 300m and 800m. The junior girls met their targets on the field with several of the girls going way beyond our expectations.
The results in the junior age group were:
3rd Guildford School Surrey 462 points
2nd Brentwood School Essex 464 points
1st SHSG 476 points
The results in the intermediate age group were:
3rd Millfield School Somerset 477 points
2nd SHSG 479 points
1st Coopers Coburn 560 points
SHSG athletics teams have now won 20 national track and field titles; the first title was in 1988.
Huge congratulations to all the girls who represented the school. We are very proud of the school athletes and their achievements this season.
Thank you to all parents and friends of SHSG who supported the girls not just on Saturday but also throughout the season.
