Enrolling in Sixth Form: GCSE Results Day 2021

We are looking forward to welcoming students into our Sixth Form in September 2021!

GCSE Results Day is on Thursday 12th August 2021.  The arrangements for enrolling into our Sixth Form on, or after results day, are detailed below.  If you have any questions, please email us at sixthform@shsg.org.

Arrangements for current SHSG Year 11 students:

Results will be available from the school canteen from 9am.  Please enter the canteen from the doors that open onto the patio.  We will only be able to accommodate one person to accompany you in to collect your results.  Other family members will be welcome to wait outside the canteen.

Once you have collected your results, you will make your way to the Sports Hall where you will be able to confirm your A Level subject choices.  Places on courses will be dependent on your GCSE results and class availability.  Miss Sewell, our careers advisor, will also be based in the Sports Hall to offer any post 16 advice you may need.

To make results day as special as possible, light refreshments and a photo booth will be available between 9am - 11am to help you celebrate and capture those special memories.

If you are not available on results day, a representative can collect results on your behalf.  Please email Mrs Parker (exams@shsg.org) to indicate who will be collecting your results.  We regret we cannot release results unless we have this confirmation.

We can only confirm A Level subjects in person.  If you are not able to come into school to confirm your A Level choices in person, please email Mrs Hopkins (sixthform@shsg.org) and we will arrange for a phone call after midday on 12th August.

Arrangements for external Year 11 students with a conditional offer of a place:

To confirm your place at SHSG Sixth Form, you must bring your GCSE results, along with a valid form of ID (passport or full birth certificate) to us between 9.30am and 12midday on Thursday 12th August.  Please come to the main school reception.  We will only be able to accommodate one parent/carer to accompany you inside the school.  Other family members will be welcome to wait outside the main school reception.

When you enrol, we will check your results against our admissions criteria for Sixth Form and for your A Level subjects.  You will also be asked to complete our online admissions form and an SHSG Trip Consent Form to complete the enrolment process.

If you are unable to come into school to enrol on results day, please email sixthform@shsg.org and we will arrange a phone call after midday on 12th August to discuss next steps.  Dependent on your GCSE results and class availability, it is possible to change your subject choices on results day.  We will be able to discuss this with you when you enrol.

Arrangements for external Year 11 students without a conditional offer of a place:

To apply for a place at SHSG Sixth Form on results day, you must bring your GCSE results and a valid form of ID (passport or full birth certificate) to us between 9.30am and 12midday on Thursday 12th August.  Please come to the main school reception.  We will only be able to accommodate one parent/carer to accompany you inside the school.  Other family members will be welcome to wait outside the main school reception.

The admissions criteria for Sixth Form are:

  • 46 points from your eight best full GCSE results.  We will accept one non-GCSE equivalent grade in replace of a GCSE within the points total.  Short courses, or GCSEs at grade 4 or below, will not be included in the points score;
  • A minimum of grade 5 in Maths and English; and
  • A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 7 or above.

If you meet the admissions criteria, you will be placed on a waiting list, and we hope to be able to contact you in the afternoon on results day, or on Friday 13th August, to confirm your place.  Places will be dependent on your GCSE results and class availability.  Priority will be given to students who previously applied for a place this year, but were not ranked within the top 300 applicants despite having met the admissions criteria.

If you are unable to come into school to apply, please email sixthform@shsg.org and we will arrange a phone call after midday on 12th August to discuss next steps.
