Applying to Sixth Form - September 2019

We are now accepting applications to our Sixth Form for admission in September 2019

If you are an external student new to SHSG, you will need to complete our online student application form.   Please ensure you have read the information on this page before you apply.  The deadline for applications is 31st January 2019.

If you are an existing SHSG student in Year 11, you do not need to complete an online application form.  You will need to complete an A Level Options Form instead which will be sent to your school email address.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for admission into Sixth Form  for September 2019 are:

  • 50 points from your best eight full GCSEs, and
  • A minimum of grade 5 in Maths and English.

Your GCSE grade will be your equivalent points score i.e. grade 7 = 7 points.  We do not include any points from GCSEs grade 4 or below in your overall points score.  We will also not include points from short courses.

In addition to the general Sixth Form entry requirements, each A Level subject has specific GCSE grade requirements.  These can be found in our 2019 Prospectus

Subject Choices

Most students will study three A Levels.  Some will study four depending on their GCSE grades.   Our subjects are organised into option blocks - please click on tab below to view the option blocks for 2019.  Students can only choose one subject in each option block up to a maximum of four options.

Students wishing to study Further Maths must select four A Levels - one of which must be Maths.    Students are not permitted to study both Economics and Business Studies as part of their subject combination due to similarities in course content.

Application Process (external students)

To apply to Sixth Form, please complete the online application form.  When you submit your form, you will see an on-screen confirmation that the form has been submitted and the option to print your application.   We will not send an email confirmation.

After we have received your application, we will contact your current school for a reference to confirm your predicted GCSE grades.  We will start requesting references in January.   This is because in most cases, schools will use your mock GCSE examination results as a basis for predicted grades, and typically, mock GCSEs take place late in the autumn term.   Once we have received a reference from your school, we will contact you via email to confirm whether we can offer you a conditional place at Sixth Form for September 2019.  We expect to respond to all applicants by Easter (subject to receipt of references).

When you are ready to apply, you can access our online application here.
