GCSE Results Day and enrolling into Sixth Form

We are looking forward to welcoming students into our Sixth Form for September 2020.

GCSE Results Day is on Thursday 20th August.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will be operating an online process for GCSE results and admissions into Sixth Form this year.  Please read the following guidance about results day and admissions carefully.  If you have any questions, please email us at sixthform@shsg.org.

For current Year 11 SHSG students:

You will be sent your GCSE results via your school email at 8am on Thursday 20th August; you do not need to come into school to collect them personally.  We will also post your results slips to you via first class post that morning.

Every student will also receive a phone call that morning to confirm you have received your results and to discuss any issues or concerns that you may have.  For admission into Sixth Form, students will need to confirm the A level subjects they wish to study via an online form which will be emailed to you after your results.  We ask that this form be completed by 9am.

We anticipate to have called all students by 11.30am.  Should you need to, you may come into school after 11.30am to discuss any further queries.

We will have a large team of staff on hand during the day, but we ask in advance for your patience should there be some delay in our communications. We are conscious of how many students we will be contacting on results day, and the reality that technology and systems under pressure can sometimes fail to cooperate.

For new students to SHSG with a conditional offer of a place in Sixth Form:

Once you have received your GCSE results on Thursday 20th August from your current school, please check to ensure you have met our admissions criteria of 50 points or more from your best eight GCSE subjects, and a minimum of grade 5 for English and Maths.  Please also check you have met the requirements for the A level subjects you wish to study. The course requirements can be found here.

You do not need to come to SHSG on Thursday 20th August. Instead we have designed a process that will allow you to submit your GCSE results and confirm your A level subjects from home.

You will receive an email by 8.30am on 20th August that will contain a link to an online form.  Using the form, you will confirm your GCSE results and the A level subjects you wish to study.  Please complete and submit the online form by 10am.

After you have submitted your form, you will receive a telephone call from a member of the Senior Leadership Team or the Sixth Form Team. The purpose of this phone call is to confirm your place at SHSG Sixth Form, or to discuss your subject choices. We anticipate you will receive this call before midday.  After your place at SHSG Sixth Form has been confirmed over the phone, you will be sent an email confirmation. The email confirmation will also contain a link to an online enrolment form which will enable you to provide the personal details required for enrolment such as current address, parental contacts and any medical information etc. The online enrolment form must be completed by 3.30pm Friday 21st August.

The following week, you will be required to bring hard copies of your actual GCSE results slips, your ID and consent forms (that require signatures) into school. The email you receive after your place has been confirmed will provide more information, along with the date and time or your appointment to come into SHSG.  The appointments are likely to take place on Tuesday 25th or Wednesday 26th August to allow time for students to receive their actual results slips.  We anticipate that schools posting students’ GCSE results slips will do so on the morning of 20th August, however we recommend you check with your school to clarify if it is their intention to do this.

If you know that you will not be in a position to access the internet and/or a phone on GCSE results day, please let us know now so that we can discuss alternative arrangements.  We will have a large team of staff on hand during the day, but we ask in advance for your patience should there be some delay in our communications. We are conscious of how many students we will be contacting on results day, and the reality that technology and systems under pressure can sometimes fail to cooperate.

For new students without conditional offers who wish to re-apply:

Although you did not receive a conditional offer from us on the basis of your initial application, we know from previous years that some students will wish to re-apply to us on results day having met the entry requirements when they receive their official GCSE grades.

You do not need to visit SHSG on Thursday 20th August. Instead we have designed a process that will allow you to re-apply to SHSG Sixth Form once you have received your results.

You will receive an email by 8.30am on 20th August that will contain a link to an online form. Using the form, you will confirm your GCSE results and the A level subjects you wish to study. The email confirmation will also contain a link to an online enrolment form which will enable you to provide the personal details required for enrolment such as current address, parental contacts and any medical information etc. The online enrolment form must be completed by 3.30pm Friday 21st August.
