GCSE Results Day and enrolling into Year 12

Arrangements for enrolling into Sixth Form

GCSE results day is Thursday 23rd August 2018.  Please read the following information carefully about the arrangements for enrolling into SHSG Sixth Form.

Current SHSG Students:  On results day, you should go straight to the Library to collect your results from 9am.  After collecting your results, you will be directed to the enrolment desks where you will officially enrol with SHSG Sixth Form.

We will only be able to hold a place for you until 12 midday on GCSE results day.  After that time, we will assume that you do not wish to take up your offer of a place at SHSG and offer it to someone else.

If you have notified the Exams Office in writing that a representative is collecting your results, then your representative can also accept your place in Sixth Form on your behalf.  However, we will not be able to fully enrol you onto your courses, as we require you to do this in person.  This means that until you come into school to complete your enrolment, you will have a place in Sixth Form but we will not be able to guarantee you can study the subjects you have chosen.

For external students with a conditional offer:  You should collect your examination results from your current school and bring your results slip and a valid form of ID (either passport or birth certificate) to the main reception at SHSG between 9.30am and 12 midday on 23rd August.

Before you get here, please check that you have met our entry requirements of 50 points or more from your best eight full GCSEs, along with a minimum of grade 5 in Maths and English.  The points are calculated as follows:

  • New GCSE grades are calculated as given e.g. 9 = 9 points, 8 = 8, 7 =7, 6=6, 5 = 5
  • Old GCSE grades are calculated: A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C= 5

We will not count any GCSEs at grade 4 or below.  Students who do not meet the entry requirements will not be accepted into Sixth Form.

When you arrive, your results will be checked against our Sixth Form entry requirements.  We will also check you have the required grades for the subjects you wish to study – details regarding facilitating subjects can be found on page 8 of our prospectus https://www.shsg.org/page/?title=Prospectus+2018%2F2019&pid=134.  Places on individual subject courses are dependent on class sizes and availability at the time of enrolment.

Your results slip and ID will be photocopied for our records, and you will be asked to complete a ‘Student Information Pack’.  To streamline the enrolment process and save time on results day, you can print out and complete our Student Information Pack in advance.  The Student Information Pack documents can be found below.

We will only be able to hold a place for you until 12 midday on GCSE results day.  After that time, we will assume that you do not wish to take up your offer of a place at SHSG and offer it to someone else.

If you cannot personally make it to enrol on the 23rd August, a representative can bring your results slip to confirm that you want to take up your place.  Your representative will need to bring a signed letter from you confirming that they have the authority to accept your place on your behalf, and they will need to bring their ID to prove who they are.  However, we will not be able to fully enrol you onto your courses, as we require you to do this in person.  This means that until you come into school to complete your enrolment, you will have a place in Sixth Form but we will not be able to guarantee you can study the subjects you have chosen.

New applications/ students without a conditional offer:  We will accept applications to Sixth Form on results day from students who had previously applied but did not receive a conditional offer, or from new applicants.  You should bring your results slip and a valid form of ID (either passport or birth certificate) to the main reception at SHSG between 9.30am and 12 midday on 23rd August.  Before you get here, please check that you have met our entry requirements (as detailed above).  We will not accept students who do not meet the entry requirements into Sixth Form.

Priority for places on results day is given to students with a conditional offer, provided that they accept their place by 12 midday.  New applicants/ students without a conditional offer will be placed on a waiting list.  We will aim to contact all applicants on the waiting list that afternoon, or by Friday 24th August at the latest, to confirm their place.  Places are dependent on class sizes and subject course availability.
