What is a Parent Forum?
The Parent Forum is an opportunity and open invitation for all parents/carers of students at SHSG to meet on a regular basis to discuss a range of school topics and to offer opinions. We aim to seek the views of parents and develop a stronger partnership by improving understanding through communication. More specifically:
- To develop and improve dialogue between parents and the school.
- To continue to make whole-school improvements which work alongside the School Development Plan
- To raise staff awareness of the needs of students and parents.
- To raise the profile of the school in the wider community.
What will the Parent Forum do?
Through open discussion the forum will hope to make the school aware of parental opinion on topics related to school which may cause concern, e.g. homework, teaching & learning, behaviour, extra-curricular activities, school lunches, facilities, school environment etc.
Who can attend the Parent Forum?
Anyone who has a child at our SHSG and/or is involved with the welfare of their education is automatically a member of our Parents' Forum.
What happens at the Parent Forum?
Our meetings will be held in the school's meeting room and will last approximately an hour. We encourage parents to come if possible with their thoughts already prepared to share at our meetings, although anyone can attend a meeting, even if they just want to listen. Our school staff will also bring ideas and thoughts to share. These thoughts and opinions are discussed and outcomes formulated in support of students, parents and the school.
How often do Parent Forums take place?
We hold our Parent Forum meetings once every half term. An agenda will be published prior to the meeting and minutes will be taken and published.Action points will be generated from these minutes and progress discussed at subsequent meetings.Agenda items will be based on and teaching and learning first and then other school business second.
Do I have to come to all the Parent Forum meetings?
You are always very welcome, but we realise that as parents we lead busy lives and often have commitments that prevent us'getting involved'. This said, your views and opinions are important to us and your input and attendance to our parent voice forum can have a positive impact on your child, yourselves and our school. If you are unable to attend and have an opinion on anything discussed please feel free to contact me via the school or email me directly email@example.com.
