Sixth Form Application Process - 2021/22 Academic Year

Applications to Sixth Form

The deadline for applications is midnight Sunday 31st January 2021.  Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.

If you are an external student new to SHSG, you will need to complete our online student application form.   Please ensure you have read the information on this page before you apply.

If you are an existing SHSG student in Year 11, you do not need to complete an application form.  You will need to complete an A level Options Form instead during the tutor programme in January 2021.

Entry Requirements 2021

The entry requirements for admission into Sixth Form  for September 2021 are:

  • A minimum of grade 5 in English and Mathematics;
  • A minimum of 46 points from your best eight full GCSE subject grades (we will accept one Level 2 applied GCSE or one Level 2 non-GCSE equivalent qualification as one of the eight subjects); and
  • A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 7 or above.

Your GCSE grade will be your equivalent points score i.e. grade 9 = 9 points, grade 8 = 8 points, grade 7 = 7 points, grade 6 = 6 points and grade 5 = 5 points.  We will not include any points from GCSEs grade 4 or below in your overall points score.  We will also not include points from short GCSE courses.

In addition to the general Sixth Form entry requirements, each A Level subject has specific GCSE grade requirements.  You can find these in the course outlines for each of our A Level subjects or by downloading the entry requirements summary summary below.

A Level Subject Choices

We offer a wide range of A Level courses, from the traditional facilitating subjects such as Mathematics, English and Science, to the Social Sciences, Modern Foreign Languages and the Arts.  A full list of our A Level courses can be found below, and you can also view the full course outlines for each subject here.

All students will begin Year 12 with four A Levels.  Students wishing to study Further Mathematics must also study Mathematics at A Level.    Students are not permitted to study both Economics and Business Studies due to similarities in course content.

Application Process (external students only)

To apply to Sixth Form, please complete our online application form by 31st January 2021

After the closing date for applications, we will contact your current school for a reference to confirm your predicted GCSE grades.  Once we have received a reference from your school, we will contact you via email to confirm whether we can offer you a conditional place at Sixth Form for September 2021.  We aim to respond to all applicants by Easter.  Successful applicants will be invited to our Sixth Form Induction Day (date to be confirmed in the summer term).

When you are ready to apply, you can access our online application form here.
