Sixth Form Admissions 2024

The A Level course outlines for 2024 can be found ‘here‘.

We are delighted that you are considering Southend High School for Girls (SHSG) Sixth Form for your A Level studies.  We are a vibrant and high-performing grammar school with an excellent track record of academic success.  We pride ourselves on offering a varied curriculum with 26 A Level subjects to choose from, alongside superb extra and super-curricular opportunities for our students.

The deadline for making an application to join Year 12 in September 2024 was 31st January.  We are unable to accept applications after this date.  Prospective students who missed the deadline can apply to join our waiting list for any remaining spaces on GCSE results day.  More information on the process for applying on GCSE results day will be available on our website in July.

We are currently reviewing applications for Sixth Form.  All students will be informed of the outcome of their application by Easter.  Students who receive a conditional offer of a place in Sixth Form will be invited to a compulsory Offer Holder Event in early July.  Students who do not receive an offer of a place are strongly encouraged to re-apply to join our waiting list for any remaining spaces on GCSE results day.  More information regarding the arrangements for GCSE results day will be published on our website in July.

Sixth Form Entry Requirements

The overall entry requirements for Sixth Form are:

  • A minimum of 50 points from your eight best full GCSEs. We will accept one non-GCSE equivalent grade in replacement of a GCSE within the points total. Short courses, or GCSEs at grade 5 or below, will not be included in the points score; and
  • A minimum of grade 5 in Maths and English Language; and
  • A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 7 or above.

In addition to the overall entry requirements for Sixth Form, each A Level subject has minimum GCSE subject requirements.  We recommend you read our Sixth Form Prospectus and the Course Outlines for each subject before making an application.

All students will begin Year 12 with four A Level subjects.  Please note that students wishing to study Further Maths must also study Maths at A Level.  Due to similarities in course content, students cannot choose to study both Economics and Business Studies at A Level.
