Sixth Form Admissions 2026
We are delighted that you are considering Southend High School for Girls (SHSG) Sixth Form for your A Level studies. We are a vibrant and high-performing grammar school with an excellent track record of academic success. We pride ourselves on offering a varied curriculum with 26 A Level subjects to choose from, alongside superb extra and super-curricular opportunities for our students.
In August 2025, we celebrated our outstanding A Level results: 76% A* – B, and 40% A* – A. We are incredibly proud of all our students’ achievements, and warmly welcome applications to join our Sixth Form in September 2026.

Enrolling in Sixth Form: GCSE Results Day
GCSE Results day is Thursday 20th August 2026.
SHSG Year 11 students:
Students can collect their GCSE results from the school canteen from 9am onwards. After collecting their results, students will be directed to the Sports Hall to enrol and confirm their A Level subjects. All courses are dependent on class sizes and availability at the time of enrolment.
Students unable to collect their GCSE results in person should contact the Exams Office (exams@shsg.org) prior to results day to confirm alternative collection arrangements. They also need to contact sixthformadmissions@shsg.org to discuss A Level enrolment.
External Year 11 conditional offer holders:
External students with a conditional offer of a place in Sixth Form should arrive between 9.30am and 12pm (midday) at the main school reception to enrol for Sixth Form. Students must bring their results slips and a valid form of ID (passport or full birth certificate), which will be copied on arrival.
Students will be directed to the main school hall to enrol and confirm their A Level subjects. All courses are dependent on class sizes and availability at the time of enrolment.
Conditional offers are held until 12pm (midday) on GCSE results day. After 12pm, any remaining places are released to students on the waiting list.
External Year 11 students without a conditional offer:
External students without a conditional offer can apply to join our wating list for available spaces on GCSE Results Day from 9.30am – 12pm (midday). Students must bring their results slips and a valid form of ID (passport or full birth certificate), which will be copied on arrival. Students must attend in person – applications to join the waiting list will not be accepted via email or telephone call.
Applicants on the waiting list will be contacted via telephone to confirm their place in Sixth Form and their A Level courses. We aim to start contacting applicants on the waiting list on the afternoon of GCSE results day where spaces are available.
Students unable to attend on GCSE Results day, can make an application in person to join the waiting list on the following days between 9.30am and 12pm (midday):
- Friday 21st August
- Monday 24th August
- Tuesday 25th August
- Wednesday 26th August
Students should come to the main school reception and must bring their results slips and a valid form of ID (passport or full birth certificate), which will be copied on arrival.
Applicants on the waiting list may be contacted before or after the start of the new academic term in September. Our last date of admission for Sixth Form is Wednesday 30th September 2026.
