OUR SCHOOL

Governors & Trustees

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the SHSG website.

I am proud of the achievement of SHSG in developing a site which is informative whilst at the same time user-friendly and modern. Its content does, I believe, reflect the ethos of the school in ensuring that all its students are safe, happy and successful.

The school governing body, of which I am privileged to be Chair, recognises the high performance of the school and are fully invested in the goal that students emerge from their education as academically enriched and confident young people, ready and equipped to face the opportunities and challenges of an ever-changing world. At the same time we understand the need to avoid complacency and to ensure that the school continues to meet its objectives (and beyond). An informative, active and agile website can of course help us all in maintaining this direction of travel.

I am a Solicitor and Director working for BTMK Solicitors where I am Head of their Personal Injury and Medical Negligence team there.  I qualified as a Solicitor in 2001 and have been a Director for over ten years. In January, I will have worked for the firm for twenty-five years.  I am based locally, in their central Southend office.

As part of my role, I do a lot of work with a local charity, Headway Essex, who assist those affected by brain injury.  This includes running a regular law clinic helping service users and their families with all variety of legal problems.  Around the clinic times, I like to catch up with some of the people who attend the day centre there.

I have two other children; a son who is eight years old and a daughter who is four, who both attend a local school. I have been a member of their school’s PTA for many, many, years now.

Outside of work and with three children I spend most of my time being ‘mums taxi’!”

Declared interest: Wife is a teacher at SHSG.

Prior to being a teacher I worked as a clinical pathologist for the NHS. I then decided to join the vibrant world of teaching. I have been a teacher at SHSG for eight years. In that time, I have taught a few subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. I have also been a Head of Year for five of the eight years. More recently I had the desire to contribute more to the school community, which has been very supportive to my family and I during my time here. Therefore, I decided to apply to become a trustee at SHSG and I was fortunate enough to obtain the position.
