Southend High School for Girls (SHSG) has made a positive start to the 2026–27 academic year. Students have been settling in quickly into lessons and extracurricular activities. New Year 7 and Year 12 students have been praised for their excellent transition into school life.
Key upcoming events include the Whole School Photograph on 23 September, Year 12 Welcome to A Level Evening on 16 September, and Year 7 Welcome to SHSG Evening on 17 September. The autumn term also features careers events, university and apprenticeship guidance, music auditions, educational visits, and popular SHSG traditions such as Year 7 Zombie Night and the SHSG School Birthday.
The school continues to celebrate student success both academically and beyond the classroom. Recent achievements include a Year 9 student winning a bronze medal at the English Closed Judo Championships and students representing England at the UK School Games. Another student has secured a place in the Arsenal Football Academy.
Additional opportunities include auditions for the 2026 production of Moana Jr., a new LAMDA Acting and Public Speaking Club, sports fixtures, and access to school nurse drop-in sessions. SHSG continues to prioritise student wellbeing through dedicated mental health resources and support services.
