This week’s Headteacher’s Letter celebrates the outstanding achievements, opportunities and community spirit at Southend High School for Girls (SHSG). Highlights include national recognition for Year 10 student Samriti Basak at the Youth Impact Awards at the Houses of Parliament, strong participation in Moana Jr. auditions with over 325 students involved, and successful Year 12 House Freshers and Agora team-building events.
Important upcoming dates include the Whole School Photograph on 23 September, the Year 12 Oxbridge Information Evening on 24 September, Year 7 Parent/Form Tutor Consultation Evening on 24 September, and the Year 12 Parent/Tutor Consultation Evening on 1 October. Families are also reminded that the school will be closed to students on Tuesday 29 September for staff INSET training and the 11+ alternative sitting.
The newsletter showcases SHSG’s commitment to academic excellence and student development through opportunities such as Parallel Maths, the launch of the IRIS scientific research club, Year 11 careers consultations, and the CognateHelix life sciences enrichment programme. Student successes continue beyond the classroom, including sporting achievements and leadership opportunities across the school.
