BBC School News Report
SHSG Media students took part in the annual BBC School News Report day last week. For the last year the students have been meeting weekly to research, write and film news stories they find relevant. These can be on any topic they are interested in regarding school, their local area and even national and international stories. They produce short films and blog posts which are shared on the school website. Here is the link to the report the students made on 15th March. https://www.shsg.org/page/?pid=64&action=saved
On the news day itself they were off timetable and worked to a strict deadline; much like a real news agency, to produce stories on the day. The girls were lucky enough to attract guest speakers to interview. They had a visit from the Essex Girls' Liberation Front who aim to change the stereotype of the 'Essex Girl'. Of course our news reporters had lots of questions to ask and they recorded an insightful interview that they are busily editing.
I would like to particularly thank John J who has led the group for the last year. He has done an amazing job organising and inspiring other students and I am sure he will go on to have a brilliant career in the media or politics. He has been ably assisted by media students, Ella B, Chanelle D and Samantha C to whom I would also like to express my thanks.
BBC School News Report club will now be led by the Media Captains and I look forward to seeing what they will investigate and report on in the coming months. Aspiring journalists, researchers, photographers and filmmakers from all year groups are very welcome to attend the club. We meet every Thursday lunchtime in the Media Studio.
