On Tuesday 24th April the under 13 football team competed in the borough tournament organised by Southend United and Chase High School. This was a celebration event to recognise the increased participation level of girls football across the borough. The day also allowed the girls to showcase their brand new kit which has generously been sponsored by ‘Hospitality Support Services’.
The girls had to play 5 group games which saw them score 18 goals and concede only 2. We met Belfairs in the semi-final having finished 1st in the group.
After a nervy start the girls settled into their own rhythm and came away with a 3-0 win. We had reached the final against a consistently strong Eastwood Academy. As a result of a strong defensive display led by our captain Hannah W we were able to play confidently out the back and play some fantastic attacking football which saw us win 4-1 and take home the medals as both borough league and borough tournament winners.
In total we scored 25 goals and conceded just 3. Michelle A scored a fantastic 12 goals, Hannah W scored 4,
Lucy 2, Toni 2 and Hannah B 1. This was a brilliant morning of football where the girls really worked well both defensively and in attack to finish undefeated against a very strong selection of schools.
A special mention to Hannah W our captain who in each game performed consistently well under pressure in defensive as well as leading the start of the attacking play whilst getting 4 goals in the process. This saw
Hannah W voted as player of the tournament by staff of Southend United.
Well done girls! Hannah W ( C ), Maddison, Kate, Bethany, Mia, Izzy, Toni, Michelle, Lucy, Hannah B.
