The school was founded in 1913 and since then generations of students have benefited from a rigorous academic education and positive, happy ethos. The school has always aimed to help young women develop independent, open minds, curiosity and a keen sense of responsibility. Now, we expect girls to go to the best universities and colleges and to embark on careers where they will flourish and influence their community in a rapidly changing world.
Although we are nearly 100 years old we are full of energy and relish challenge and change. The school offers a varied, challenging and ambitious curriculum and an exciting array of extra curricular activities. Ofsted commented on the exceptional range of opportunities available to girls during their time at SHSG.
The facilities too are modern and well designed. Our new Art and Technology Block and Sports Hall opened in 2008 are the envy of all who see them and there are up to date facilities for Science and ICT. When you visit you will also see the welcoming reception area and the light and modern cafeteria.
The school enjoys an excellent reputation locally: our results at GCSE and A level are enviable; girls excel themselves on work experience, working for charity and playing music and sport. Ofsted, in February 2007, found the school to be 'outstanding' and visitors often comment on the courtesy, consideration and attentiveness of our students.
